Useful Informations
- Our departure time from Cusco has been adjusted as of September 1st to 5:00 am. This change is due to the typical afternoon rainfall, making morning hikes more favorable.
- On the second day, you will traverse the Puca Cocha pass in the afternoon. Please note that the views from the top may not be as impressive as they are in the mornings. The Ausangate Trek 3 days is classified as challenging because you cover the same distance as the Ausangate 4-day trek. It is advisable to opt for the 4-day trek so that you can hike in the mornings and have leisure time in the afternoons.
Recommendations
- If you exhibit symptoms of altitude sickness, descend as promptly as possible. Altitude sickness should not be taken lightly.
- Our guide always carries oxygen tanks, which are vital once you exceed 5040 meters/16,500 feet above sea level. Not all tour companies provide this service, so it’s an essential factor to consider when selecting the best Rainbow Mountain tour operator.
- Ensure that you have acclimatized to Cusco’s high altitude before embarking on your Rainbow Mountain hike. This is the most reliable way to ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip.
- We recommend spending a minimum of 2 days in Cusco before starting the excursion.
- Cold temperatures can lead to battery depletion, so store them in your sleeping bag.
- The increased elevation also entails colder temperatures, almost freezing, so come prepared. If you opt for a multi-day tour, make sure to wear exceptionally warm clothing.
- Additionally, bring coca leaves to combat altitude sickness and carry the bare minimum of gear to simplify the hike.
- Renting equipment is easily done in Cusco if you require anything, typically for a few dollars per item per day.
- Our campsites feature huts that provide protection from rain, snow, and hail.
- Regardless of the weather conditions, the scenery remains breathtaking.
- While we anticipate that the tour will follow the Ausangate Trek 3-day itinerary as described, participants should acknowledge that changes may be necessary due to local conditions such as strikes or natural disasters.
- You will traverse three passes, all situated above 16,000 feet in elevation. The ascents are generally gradual.
- Temperatures can plummet well below freezing during the night, so be prepared for snow.
