Waqrapukara Trek - Full Day

Quick view of the activity

Waqrapukara trek 1 day is the ultimate choice for some peace and quiet and to discover an incredible site that very few people get to visit—locals and tourists! Join us on an epic hike to the majestic pre-Inca construction of Waqrapukara. This beautiful sacred place combines an incredible work in stone with spectacular natural formations and small lagoons around. Waqra is “horn” in Spanish. Pukara is equivalent to strength. The “horns” rise 4,300 meters above sea level, on the summit of a huge ravine covered with forests that crown the chasms that overlook the Apurimac River canyon. The archaeological monument is surrounded by impressive platforms, squares and a forest of stones that resemble thrones with mythological giants contemplating the Andean landscape.

This wonderful place was built by the Qanchis (Pre-Inca Culture) in the Aquaruna period 1,500 BC. – 1,000 BC at this time it was known us Llacta Pukara, However, it is said that it would have been an astronomical observatory and a sanctuary dedicated to Teqsi Pachacamac Wiracocha which is God creator of all things. However, it was later conquered by the Incas, who located their buildings according to the geography of the place. During the reign of Wayna Qhapac it became an Inca sanctuary of the first order, which symbolized immense political and religious power. In 2017 it was declared as Cultural Heritage of the Nation by the Ministry of Culture.
