Best time to do Salkantay Trek

The Salkantay Trek is a breathtaking and challenging adventure that takes hikers through some of the most stunning landscapes in Peru, including snow-capped peaks, lush forests, and high-altitude plateaus. However, choosing the best time to do the Salkantay Trek is crucial for a safe and enjoyable experience. Here’s what you need to know about the best time to do the Salkantay Trek:

      Dry Season: May-September

The dry season is considered the best time to do the Salkantay Trek. This season runs from May to September, with clear skies, stable weather conditions, and less rainfall. During this time, temperatures are warmer and more pleasant, making hiking conditions more comfortable. The dry season is also an excellent time for photography, as the clear skies offer stunning views of the Andes Mountains and the surrounding landscapes.

However, since the dry season is also the peak season for tourism, the trail can get crowded, and prices for tours and accommodations may be higher. It’s recommended to book your trip well in advance to secure your preferred dates.

      Wet Season: October-April

The wet season runs from October to April, and it’s characterized by heavy rainfall and unpredictable weather conditions. During this time, the trail can be more challenging, with muddy and slippery sections and the potential for landslides and flooding. Some sections of the trail may also be closed due to safety concerns.

However, the wet season is also a quieter time for tourism, with fewer crowds and lower prices for tours and accommodations. For experienced hikers and those who are prepared for the challenges of wet weather, the wet season can still offer a unique and rewarding experience.

      Shoulder Season: April-May and September-October

The shoulder season, which runs from April to May and from September to October, can also be a good time to do the Salkantay Trek. During this time, the weather is still relatively dry and stable, but with fewer crowds and lower prices than during the peak season. However, it’s important to keep in mind that weather conditions can still be unpredictable, especially at higher elevations.
