Welcome to the Heart of the Amazon
Arrive in Puerto Maldonado, the vibrant capital of Peru’s biodiversity. From there, take a scenic 45-minute boat ride along the winding Madre de Dios River. Your journey begins as you head deep into the rainforest, arriving at the stunning Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica ecolodge.
Upon arrival, you’ll receive a warm welcome and a personalized briefing about the à la carte excursions available, allowing you to tailor your stay to your interests. Enjoy a delicious lunch or settle into your private, eco-luxury cabin, nestled in Peru’s first private ecological reserve—protected by Inkaterra since 1975.
After a short rest—perhaps a nap or some quiet time in your hammock—you’ll join your Explorer Guide for your first adventure. We recommend starting with a guided walk along the Trail System for a close-up view of the Amazon’s remarkable biodiversity. Walk beneath towering trees like the Shihuahuaco and keep your eyes open for colorful birds, monkeys, and even sloths high in the canopy.
As evening sets in, consider the Twilight River excursion. This peaceful night boat ride reveals the jungle’s transformation as nocturnal creatures emerge—look out for nightjars, owls, capybaras, and elusive caimans.
Later, enjoy a dinner inspired by Amazonian flavors, served between 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM, complete with a complimentary Pisco cocktail. Rest deeply in your cozy cabin, lulled to sleep by the symphony of jungle sounds.

Sandoval Lake & Canopy Adventure
Start your day early with a buffet breakfast available from 5:00 AM. Today’s highlight is a visit to Lake Sandoval, located within the Tambopata National Reserve. Paddle a dugout canoe across peaceful channels surrounded by lush palm trees, and explore the lake’s calm waters.
Lake Sandoval is home to a rich array of wildlife—giant river otters, howler monkeys, macaws, black caimans, turtles, and even anacondas. Return to the lodge in time for lunch.
In the afternoon, take to the treetops with the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway—a network of hanging bridges and lookout towers rising up to 42 meters (138 feet) above the ground. It’s a unique chance to spot toucans, woodpeckers, monkeys, and even three-toed sloths from a bird’s-eye view.
Extend your experience with sunset drinks from the observation tower or opt for an overnight stay in a canopy treehouse (optional add-on). Afterward, descend to explore the Anaconda Walk, a raised boardwalk through a flooded aguaje forest—perfect for spotting frogs, birds, mammals, and curious plant life.
Unwind back at the lodge, and if you wish, enjoy a relaxing treatment at the ENA Spa (extra cost). Dinner is served à la carte starting at 7:00 PM.

Rainforest Farming & Nighttime Jungle Walk
Begin the day with a 25-minute boat ride to Gamitana Farm and Creek, where you’ll discover how local farmers grow exotic fruits and medicinal plants used by Amazonian communities. You’ll have the chance to taste seasonal produce right from the source.
Next, walk through dense jungle trails until you reach Gamitana Creek, known for its dark, slow-moving waters. Watch for piranhas, caimans, turtles, and birds camouflaged along the banks. Return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, head upriver to Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción, once a cacao and rubber plantation run by missionaries. This area holds over 200 plant species—learn about their traditional uses and the Amazon’s reputation as the world’s largest natural pharmacy.
Finish the day with a tranquil 30-minute canoe ride in search of river birds like herons and nightjars. Later, under moonlight, set out on the Rainforest by Night walk—equipped with flashlights, your senses will come alive as you discover the hidden world of nocturnal animals.

Farewell to the Amazon
Enjoy your final morning surrounded by nature. Watch as colorful parrots fly above and agoutis roam the lush gardens. Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica is home to over 540 registered bird species—an incredible biodiversity that surrounds you at every moment.
Check-out is at 10:00 AM. Depending on your flight time, lunch can be arranged at the lodge (optional, additional charge). A final 45-minute boat ride will take you back to the airport in Puerto Maldonado.

- Sunscreen and Lip Balm: The sun at altitude can be powerful; guard your skin and lips.
- Toilet Paper: Handy for local bathrooms (yes, most charge one sol for use)
- Insect Repellent: Beginning on your second day, you’ll be in the jungle, an area where mosquitoes are prevalent. It is advisable also to wear long-sleeved clothing.
- Outerwear: A warm jacket for the cool mornings, and a lighter one for the Layering is important when it comes to adjusting to fluctuating temperatures.
- Energy Snacks: Beef or fish jerky, energy bars (you can try something like Kind bars), chocolate, granola, and candy to keep you energized the 6-8 hours worth of trekking you will do each day.
- Water Container: You need a bottle or hydration system with at least a 2-liter capacity. The first lunch will also see it being refilled with purified water.
