Inca Trail 5 Days Itinerary
Day 1 Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Hatunchaca /Chamana.
We will be departing at precisely 7:00 am from your hotel for our highly anticipated Machu Picchu Inca Trail Tour via a private transportation service. Our first stop will be in Ollantaytambo where we will have the opportunity to explore the beautiful town. After about 40 more minutes of driving, we will reach the Trailhead, located beyond Ollantaytambo village. Although it is a long drive, it is filled with mesmerizing, scenic views.
Once we reach the checkpoint, we will ensure that everyone’s entrance permits, both for the group and support crew porters, are validated. Then, we will embark on our adventure on the Inca Trail. The trail starts by crossing the suspension bridge and traversing along the left shore of the Urubamba River.
Within the first couple of hours, we will make our way to the Mesqay, where we will halt to enjoy our lunch. Afterward, we will hike to the incredible Inca site, Patallacta, which will pave the way for a memorable rest of our time on the trail. We will then trek to our campsite, situated in the Hatunchaca or Chamana sector, where we will have a peaceful evening with very few people around. This is because the four-day group is accommodated in Huayllabamba and Ayapata campsites.
- Length: 5 km (3,10 miles)

- Max point: 2,650 m (8,331 ft)

Day 2 Chamana – Wayllabamba – Llulluchapampa
In preparation for our adventure, a gentle bell or knock on your door will signal the start of the day, and we will begin our hike towards Wayllabamba. The trek initially offers a relatively flat terrain, until we reach the town of Huayllabamba – the last settlement to be found on the Inca trail. Private toilets and small shops will be available for your convenience along the way.
However, once we leave the town behind us, the trail becomes increasingly challenging, as we go higher and higher, reaching our destination at the Ayapata resting point. Here, the stunning panoramic views of the snow-capped mountains and cloud forests will take your breath away.
Afterwards, we will continue on to Llulluchapampa where we will set up our camp. This scenic grassy area provides the perfect setting for relaxation, with the chance to see Andean deer and llamas in their natural habitat.

After an energizing breakfast, we will start our hike to the first and highest mountain saddle in the route: Abra Warmiwañusqa, Quechua for Dead Woman’s Pass. It’s a strenuous climb, but the reward is breathtaking- a lush green valley. The hike up may take about 1.5 hours, and then another two hours to descend to the Pacaymayo campground for lunch. You will have the opportunity to take pictures with the Dead Woman’s pass without worrying about the crowd. With a bit of luck, we may spot some Andean deer and endemic birds. After lunch, we will continue our trek towards the second pass. The trail offers fantastic views of waterfalls, flora, and fauna. You will have a chance to relax and recharge at the Runcu Raqay Inca site before continuing towards the pass. The summit offers stunning views of snow-capped mountains and pristine landscapes.
Our descent will take us to the Sayaq Marca Inca Complex. We will have a guided tour and then continue our trek for about three more hours through flat and inclined paths, surrounded by lush vegetation. Later that afternoon, we will observe the sunset and see the Machu Picchu mountain, as well as the Urubamba River down in the valley. After dinner, we will retire early to be prepared for the next day’s sunrise observation.

After breakfast, we will begin our journey through the Phuyu Pata Marca site, descending the long stone steps towards Wiñay Wayna. On our way, we will have an opportunity to visit the Inti Pata viewpoint, where we can observe an important agricultural area considered a significant aspect of Machu Picchu. After exploring the Intipata sector, we will descend straight down to Wiñay Huayna, one of the largest Inca sites outside of Machu Picchu. Here, we can appreciate the intricacy of architectural development in the housing structures, situated in the upper and lower edges of the site, connected by a grand staircase. We will enjoy lunch at the campsite close to the Inca site; then, we will have a farewell ceremony for our Inca Trail porters and cook before continuing our hike to the Sun Gate.
