Do you intend to embark on an adventure journey while visiting Peru?

Our Classic Choquequirao Trek is just that. Join us on an epic adventure to one of the most magnificent Inca structures in existence.

The name “Choquequirao” means “Cradle of Gold” in the “Quechua” language. This spectacular archaeological site is located above the furious Apurímac River and is surrounded by towering glacier peaks. Very few tourists visit it because it’s not as well-known as Machu Picchu, but it’s 3 times bigger! It’s said to have been one of the last refuges of the Incas who tried to resist the Spanish invasion. Later, Choquequirao was abandoned, and the dense vegetation of the cloud forest ended up covering it and hiding it from civilization.

FULL ITINERARY

Day
01

Cusco | Cachora - Capuliyoc - Chiquisca

We will begin our thrilling excursion very early in the morning. We will be picking you up at 4:30 a.m. from your accommodation and drive you to “Cachora” in our own vehicle. Along the trip, we’ll see the spectacular snow cap peaks of “Salkantay” and “Humantay” in the distance.

We’ll visit “Cachora” and wander through its lovely streets, which will teach us about its rich culture. We shall eat a healthy and tasty breakfast. Then we proceed to “Capuliyoc” (2,890 m), where we meet the rest of our hiking team: cooks and muleteers who will carry our stuff during the journey. After finalizing the plans, we will hike through the “Apurimac Canyon”. We will “zigzag” down for almost three hours to “Chiquisca” (1,900 m), a picturesque village with fruit farms.

During the path, we will be able to see the breathtaking landscape of the “Apurimac” Valley, as well as the magnificent flight of the condor and the breathtaking views of two massive glacier mountains known as “Padreyoc” and “Qoriwayrachina”. As we travel farther into the valley, the heat, the lush flora, and the rhythmic sounds of the flowing “Apurimac” River become more apparent.

afterwards, we’ll arrive at the tropical hamlet of “Chiquisca”, a lush green camp in the center of a parched a peak where we’ll eat and stay the night.

Day
02

Chiquisca | Playa Rosalinas - Santa Rosa - Marampata.

Having a fantastic breakfast to replenish your energy, we’ll continue our journey and begin our climb. A zigzagging trek to “Marampata” (2,900 m) awaits us, where we may get breathtaking images of the canyon and the snow-capped peaks that surround us.

We’ll start with a one-hour and fifteen-minute downhill to the valley’s lowest point, known as “Playa Rosalinas” (1,500 meters). We’ll cross the pedestrian bridge to start the toughest portion of the trek.

On the route, we’ll stop momentarily in the hamlet of “Santa Rosa” (1,970 m) for a delicious lunch prepared by our team to help you recover energy. We’ll continue to climb for over three hours until we reach the “Marampata” campground. In the afternoon, you will admire the gorgeous surroundings and feel the liveliness that this outstanding region has near the fortress of “Choquequirao.” From here, you may witness the sunset.

When it gets dark, we’ll see a stunning sunset, accompanied by a sky full of thousands of stars that fill the landscape and greenery surrounding us. Then it will be time to have dinner before retiring to bed to relax.

Day
03

Marampata | Archaeological Complex of Choquequirao - Marampata.

Your guide will wake you up with coca tea, and as you sip the hot coca tea, our cooks will make a great breakfast to give you a surge of energy.

Then we’ll spend the day exploring every aspect of this spectacular Inca monument, which is set in the highlands and adjacent to South America’s deepest canyon.

“Choquequirao” (3,050 m) is significantly larger than Machu Picchu, with plazas, temples, and spectacular platforms that leave you wondering how the Incas built this on top of the mountains. At midday, you’ll eat a picnic lunch and have time to relax and recharge.

Don’t miss the iconic white stone llamas that decorate the platforms constructed on the slope and face the mountain that protects this section, known as the Apu Qoriwayrachina. According to specialists, just around 40% of the entire site is accessible, and Choquequirao is still mostly unknown.

Day
04

Marampata | Santa Rosa - Playa Rosalinas - Chiquisca.

Following another great breakfast, we will begin our way back from “Choquequirao”. This one-of-a-kind site will be missed for the time being, so take one more look before leaving. We will first have another opportunity to photograph the vast canyon from “Marampata” before descending for two hours till we reach “Santa Rosa” (2,970 m), our lunch stop. On the route, you will be able to view the huge diversity of plants on this section.

After lunch, we’ll head to “Playa Rosalinas” to soak our feet and cool off in the chilly waters of the “Apurimac” River in the canyon. Then we’ll head up to the “Chiquisca” camp (1,900 m), which is located in the rear yard of a local family’s home. Use this opportunity to meet new people and learn about Andean culture, including customs and traditions.

Following a great supper, you may relax for the night in our pleasant tent and reflect on your adventure to this point.

Day
05

Chiquisca | Capuliyoc - Saywite Monolith - Conoc Hot Springs - Cusco.

On the final day of our trek, our guide will wake you up with coca tea or coffee. Also, you may have andean buffet breakfast. After that, we’ll depart as early as possible to escape the sun, which may make hiking tough at high altitudes. Take a deep breath and concentrate on mother nature’s energies as you climb for four hours to “Capuliyoc”.

We’ll bid farewell to the hiking crew and board private transportation to see the famed “Saywite monolith,” a massive rock sculpted with over 200 geometric and zoomorphic motifs. You’ll find that this location was a focus of religious devotion for the Incas, based on water and extremely important to their civilization.

After learning about the area’s history, we’ll head to the hot springs of Conoc to rest and unwind in the soothing waters. After enjoying these cool springs, our lunch will be ready, and we will begin our trip back to Cusco.

On the route back to Cusco, you may admire the glacial mountains that have caressed you with genuine compassion throughout the path, allowing you to arrive safely at each point along the way.
